Potassium Metal(K Metal)

Product Code : ME-K-NN-CU

Potassium is a soft, silvery coloured metal, which like other members of the alkali group of metals, is extremely reactive. As with other members of the group, it can be prepared by electrolysis of the fused halide. It is one of the more common alkali metals, there being 26000 ppm in the earth's crust, the main source being potassium chloride. Potassium is the seventh most abundant element on earth. It is one of the most reactive and electropositive of all metals and rapidly oxidizes. As with other alkali metals, potassium decomposes in water with the evolution of hydrogen because of its reacts violently with water, it only occurs in nature in ionic salts.

ATT is a professional supplier of high-purity Potassium Metal, The purity can be 99.99%(4N), 99.995%(4N5), 99.999%(5N). Potassium Metal is available as disc, granules, ingot, pellets, pieces, powder , rod, wire, sputtering target and in numerous other forms and custom shapes.

It is one of the more common alkali metals, there being 26000 ppm in the earth's crust, the main source being potassium chloride. Potassium is the seventh most abundant element on earth. As with other alkali metals, potassium decomposes in water with the evolution of hydrogen because of its reacts violently with water, it only occurs in nature in ionic salts. Potassium Bohr Model In its elemental form, potassium has a silvery gray metallic appearance, but its compounds (such as potassium hydroxide) are more frequently used in industrial and chemical applications. It does not occur naturally. Potassium has limited use as the pure metal, although it can be used with sodium as a coolant in liquid metal reactors. It is more commonly used as a salt; for example potassium bromide, which is used in photography, and potassium carbonate which has applications in the areas of fluxes, pharmaceuticals and soaps. One of the most important uses of potassium salts is as fertilisers. Potassium is an essential element for all living beings and, on average, a human being contains approximately 140 gm, the majority of which is present in muscle tissue.

Applications of Potassium Metal

The production of sodium potassium alloys

Metallic potassium is used in several types of magnetometers

The stable isotopes of potassium can be laser cooled and used to probe fundamental and technological problems in quantum physics. The two bosonic isotopes possess convenient Feshbach resonances to enable studies requiring tunable interactions, while 40
K is one of only two stable fermions amongst the alkali metals

Packing of Potassium Metal

Standard Packing:

Typical bulk packaging includes palletized plastic 5 gallon/25 kg. pails, fiber and steel drums to 1 ton super sacks in full container (FCL) or truck load (T/L) quantities. Research and sample quantities and hygroscopic, oxidizing or other air sensitive materials may be packaged under argon or vacuum. Solutions are packaged in polypropylene, plastic or glass jars up to palletized 440 gallon liquid totes Special package is available on request.

ATTs’ High Purity Potassium Metal is carefully handled to minimize damage during storage and transportation and to preserve the quality of our products in their original condition.

The market is volatile because long-term storage of the metal is difficult. It must be stored in a dry inert gas atmosphere or anhydrous mineral oil to prevent the formation of a surface layer of potassium superoxide, a pressure-sensitive explosive that detonates when scratched. The resulting explosion often starts a fire difficult to extinguish
