Tellurium Metal (Te Metal),(7N) 99.99999% Tellurium,High Purity Tellurium

Product Code : HP-Te-7N-CU

Tellurium is a chemical element with symbol Te and atomic number 52. It is a brittle, mildly toxic, rare, silver-white metalloid. Tellurium is chemically related to selenium and sulfur. It is occasionally found in native form as elemental crystals. Tellurium metal is a brittle silvery-white semi-metallic element and is available in disc, granules, ingots, pellets, and other various forms. It is commonly produced as a byproduct of copper refining. Tellurium metal is a semiconductor that varies in electrical conductivity depending on its atomic alignment. The conductivity increases upon being exposed to light. In its molten state, it becomes corrosive to copper, iron, and stainless steel.

ATT provides tellurium metal and tellurium compounds including Tellurium Metal(ingot, rod, plate, powder, lump, particle, tellurium sputtering target, etc.),Purity: 3N~7N, or customized.

Tellurium is a rare, silvery-white, semi-metallic element which exhibits both metallic and non-metallic traits and has an abundance of 0.005 ppm in the earth's crust. It exists in only one form, whereas the other members of the oxygen group of elements in the periodic table all exhibit at least two allotropic forms. It is generally found in combination with other elements, and can be isolated from the fine dusts of telluride gold ores. Tellurium will burn in air and oxygen, is unaffected by water or HCl, but is soluble in HNO₃. Tellurium has p-type semiconductor properties and, hence, is used in the electronics industry. The metal is used in the refining of zinc where it eliminates cobalt from the process. Other metallurgical applications include its use as an alloying element with, for example copper and stainless steel, the resulting alloys having improved machineability. Contact with either the pure metal or its compounds is to be avoided as they are not only toxic, but inhalation of the vapours leads to unpleasant body odours!

Applications of Tellurium Metal

High purity tellurium metal is applied in semiconductor and electronics industries. Tellurium is a p-type semiconductor, and shows greater conductivity in certain directions, depending on alignment of the atoms. Many tellurium compounds exhibit photoconductivity--their conductivity increases slightly with exposure to light--which makes many tellurides candidates for solar energy applications. Tellurium improves the machinability of copper and stainless steel, and its addition to lead improves its strength and hardness. Tellurium is used as a basic ingredient in blasting caps, and is added to cast iron for chill control. Tellurium is used in ceramics. Bismuth telluride has been used in thermoelectric devices. Tellurium oxides are available in powder and dense pellet form for such uses as optical coating and thin film applications. Oxides tend to be insoluble. Tellurium fluoride is another insoluble form for uses in which oxygen is undesirable such as metallurgy, chemical and physical vapor deposition and in some optical coatings. Tellurium is also available in soluble forms including chlorides and nitrates. These compounds can be manufactured as solutions at specified stoichiometries.

Tellurium is available as metal and compounds with purities from 99% to 99.999% (ACS grade to ultra-high purity). Elemental or metallic forms include pellets, rod, wire and granules for evaporation source material purposes. Used in iron, copper and lead alloys to improve machinability.

Packing of Tellurium Metal

Standard Packing:

Typical bulk packaging includes palletized plastic 5 gallon/25 kg. pails, fiber and steel drums to 1 ton super sacks in full container (FCL) or truck load (T/L) quantities. Research and sample quantities and hygroscopic, oxidizing or other air sensitive materials may be packaged under argon or vacuum. Solutions are packaged in polypropylene, plastic or glass jars up to palletized 440 gallon liquid totes Special package is available on request.

ATTs’ Tellurium Metal is carefully handled to minimize damage during storage and transportation and to preserve the quality of our products in their original condition.
