Lutetium (Lu) Metal

Product Code : RE-Lu-5N-CU

Lutetium Metal is available as disc, granules, ingot, pellets, pieces, powder , rod, sputtering target, wire, and in numerous other forms and custom shapes. Typical and custom packaging is available. Ultra high purity and high purity forms also include metal powder, submicron powder and nanoscale, quantum dots, targets for thin film deposition, pellets for evaporation and single crystal or polycrystalline forms. Elements can also be introduced into alloys or other systems as fluorides, oxides or chlorides or as solutions. Lutetium metal is generally immediately available in most volumes. Typical and custom packaging is available. Lutetium is used for x-ray phosphors because it produces the densest known white material, lutetium tantalate (LuTaO4). It is utilized as a dopant in matching lattice parameters of certain substrate garnet crystals, such as indium-gallium-garnet (IGG).

Features

The silver-gray metal is very soft, well stretchable and malleable. In dry air lutetium is quite stable, in moist air it turns gray. At higher temperatures, it burns to the sesquioxide Lu2O3. With water, it reacts very slowly with evolution of hydrogen to the hydroxide. In mineral acids, it dissolves to form hydrogen.
In its compounds it is present in the oxidation state + 3, the Lu3 + cations form colorless solutions in water.

Lutetium (Lu) Metal Application

Lutetium Metal Lu is applied in petroleum and environment protection catalysts, mischmetal, polishing powders and Rare Earth fertilizers.

Packing of Lutetium (Lu) Metal

Standard Packing:

Typical bulk packaging includes palletized plastic 5 gallon/25 kg. pails, fiber and steel drums to 1 ton super sacks in full container (FCL) or truck load (T/L) quantities. Research and sample quantities and hygroscopic, oxidizing or other air sensitive materials may be packaged under argon or vacuum. Solutions are packaged in polypropylene, plastic or glass jars up to palletized 440 gallon liquid totes Special package is available on request.
