Product Information

Yttrium oxide, also known as yttria, is Y2O3. It is an air-stable, white solid substance. insoluble in water and alkali, soluble in acid. Yttrium oxide is used as a common starting material for both materials science as well as inorganic compounds. High purity Yttrium Oxides are the most important materials for tri-bands Rare Earth phosphors which give the red color in color television & computer tubes. In the optical industry, the Yttrium Oxide is used to produce Yttrium-Iron-Garnets, which are very effective microwave filters. Low purity of Yttrium Oxide is widely applied in electronic ceramics. It is widely used to make Eu:YVO4 and Eu:Y2O3 phosphors that give the red color in color TV picture tubes. Yttrium Oxide is also used to make Yttrium-Iron-Garnets, which are very effective microwave filters.

Yttrium, atomic no. 39, symbol Y, weight at 88.91, has the highest thermo-dynamic affinity for oxygen of any element, this characteristic is the basis for many of its applications. While not part of the rare earth series, it resembles the heavy rare earths which are sometimes referred to as the yttrics for this reason. Some of the many applications of yttrium include in ceramics for crucibles for molten reactive metals, in florescent lighting phosphors, computer displays and automotive fuel consumption sensors. Yttria stabilized zirconium oxide are used in high temperature applications, such as in thermal plasma sprays to protect aerospace high temperature surfaces. Crystals of the yttrium-iron-garnet (YIG) variety are essential to microwave communication equipment.

Yttrium Oxide(Y2O3) Powder Application

Yttria is widely used to make Eu:YVO4 and Eu:Y2O3 phosphors that give the red color in color TV picture tubes.

Y2O3 is a prospective solid-state laser material. In particular, lasers with ytterbium as dopant allow efficient operation both in continuous operation and in pulsed regimes. Yttrium oxide is used to stabilize the Zirconia in late-generation porcelain-free metal-free dental ceramics. This is a very hard ceramic used as a strong base material in some full ceramic restorations.

Yttrium oxide is also used to make yttrium iron garnets, which are very effective microwave filters.

Yttrium oxide is used to make the high-temperature superconductor YBa2Cu3O7. –

Yttrium oxide is an important material for inorganic compounds. -In addition, Y2O3 is also applied in the laser industry.

It is also used to make film capacitors and special refractories, as well as magnetic bubble materials for high-pressure mercury lamps, lasers, storage elements, etc.

The addition of yttrium oxide during sintering can effectively reduce the grain size of tungsten alloy.
